Company information

“De Madrid al Cielo” (from Madrid to heaven) is what Madrilenians say of their captivating city. According to them, only heaven is more beautiful than Madrid. With a rooftop sky-skiming set against the city’s skyline, The Principal Madrid has taken these celestial inspirations to heart and soul. Amongst cypress and olive trees, with the sky nearly in reach, you can see beyond Madrid’s boundaries on a clear day, while Spain’s capital city hustles and bustles seven stories below.

Located on Gran Vía, possibly the most well-connected street of Madrid, this is the best address in town. Housed in a palatial 1917 Spanish Renaissance-style building, The Principal Madrid is the latest vision from Design Hotels™ Original Pau Guardans. Firmly stamped as Guardans’ flagship hotel, The Principal Madrid joins Hotel Único Madrid and Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona as the third hotel from a man at the forefront of a movement in modern Spanish luxury. Unifying the three hotels is the historic essence of the buildings and a shared spirit as landmarks of urban lifestyle.

Behind the palatial façade, designer Pilar García-Nieto and the team of the Barcelona-based design studio, Luzio, drew inspiration from fashion and lifestyle gurus like Ferragamo and Ralph Lauren for the stylish interiors of the 76-rooms and suites of the hotel. Retaining the old-world charisma and grand proportions of yesteryear, García-Nieto preserved the original high ceilings, large windows and ironwork of the building. Through the use of designer furniture, fabrics and colors, a sophisticated chic atmosphere is created, evocative of a 21st century Manhattan loft-meets-posh-British clubhouse.

Understanding that fine food is part of most memorable experiences, Guardans has once again enlisted Catalan-born Ramón Freixa, renowned for his culinary prowess at Hotel Único Madrid. Having earned two Michelin stars at Hotel Único Madrid, Freixa favors honest cuisine, combining traditional techniques with avant-garde creative expression.
